TLDR: Doing preorders cause we're running out of colors fast, and I want everyone to get the one that they want. Yes, you can trust Sphinx to deliver, we already have with the first round of Kickstarter fulfillments. It will take 3-4 months to get into your hands, but I will be very transparent and communicative.
I am stoked to be able to say that the Kickstarter for MagVault was an incredible success. Thanks to all of you, we raised over $250,000 AUD, manufactured thousands of MagVaults, and got them into sessions and onto tables all over the world.
But the relatively quick turnover of funding -> production -> fulfillment, meant that not everyone who wanted one, got it. With some recent attention from our favorite D&D podcast (smiley day, critters!), I've been getting more and more messages asking when MagVaults will be available again.
So I think it's time for another production run.
Why Am I Doing a Pre-Order?
I want everyone to get the MagVault they actually want. The first production run was primarily allocated to Kickstarter backers, and some colors were sold out before they even made it to the website.
Rather than ordering a limited quantity and risking shortages again, a pre-order allows me to gauge demand and manufacture enough inventory for everyone.
If you've had your eye on a particular color, this is your opportunity to secure it before production begins.
How Long Will It Take To Get My Box?
The current plan is to keep pre-orders open for approximately 1-2 months.
After that, production will take around another month, followed by roughly a month of freight shipping to the warehouses.
Once you factor in customs clearance, inventory processing, and *insert global logistics issue here*, I think a realistic estimate is around 3 months from the time pre-orders close.
This is a fairly standard timeline for a production run of this size, and I'd rather give you a realistic estimate than an optimistic one.
Can I Trust Sphinx Stationery?
Absolutely. I have a crippling fear of disappointing people. Also there's historical proof-
The Kickstarter campaign has been completed with glowing reviews. This pre-order campaign isn't an untested concept, it's just round 2 of something that's already been successfully manufactured and fulfilled.
Throughout the Kickstarter campaign, I shared regular updates, communicated delays when they occurred, and tried my best to be transparent about every step of the process, you can check it out here. I plan to do the same during this process.
How Will I Stay Updated?
My goal is to provide at least one update every month, even if the update is that production is progressing as expected.
Major milestones I'll share include: production start, freight departure, arrival in destination countries, customs clearance, arrival at fulfillment warehouses and fulfillment commencement.
I'll also do my best to send these updates via email so you don't have to remember to check back here manually.
